To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

Copy of Two Youths
by
Unknown Artist
I always take note of people with their sketch pads, hard at work in museums; on this day, I had seen several easels, in the National Gallery, which stood empty, and wondered about what stories they might have to tell.
As I was getting ready to leave, I happened upon this artist painting a copy of Pablo Picasso’s Two Youths, and asked if I could photograph her at work; she graciously consented. I would have liked to speak with her, but had no desire to interrupt further.
What an amazingly pleasant way to spend the day.
Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
