A Hummingbird and The Bumblebees
Last night, on the evening news, I was warned to expect severe weather today, including tornados. As I write these words, I am currently under a tornado warning. I have prepared in the best way I know – oh, I just remembered that I do not have a flash light handy, I should step away for a few moments, and add a flashlight to my pile, at the top of the stairs. I am back, flashlight in tow.
I decided last night, that as a storm was coming, I would go out and harvest flowers, which torrential rain will harm.
After a morning rain, the sun came out, and I went in search of a bouquet or two, I got three! About ten days ago, I cut daisy’s galore, some which are still fresh, and enough to share with my sister, Caroline, who loves daisy’s – maybe still her favorite flower.
Today, as I went out to see what was in bloom, I was treated to a symphony of buzzing bees. What a treat to watch the bees collecting nectar, perhaps they too have heard about the approaching storm; I know the squirrels and chipmunks are scurrying around, as if they had to have heard.
As I was photographing the bees, I suddenly noticed what I first thought was some kind of dragon fly; upon closer inspection, I realized it was a hummingbird!
This was the tiniest hummingbird I have ever seen; also, it was the first brown hummingbird. I was so delighted to spend a few minutes with this busy little bird and bees.
