The Ephemeral Lilac

It is the fragrance, which announces that the lilacs are in bloom; their sweet perfume draws you toward the delicate flowers from a family of mostly purples and white.

I was blessed with neighbors who not only planted lilac bushes, near my driveway, but invited me to pick as many blossoms as I like.

The price one pays, to enjoy this blooming beauty, is that on average; the shrubs only bloom for a couple of weeks, normally in late May.

They require plenty of sunshine, at least an inch of water, a week, and good pruning’s, to ensure an ample bounty of flowers, in the following year.

LOVE lilacs. We have three bushes (shared with neighbors), but they do not produce well. I appreciate the info on watering. Wish I knew hot to prune them.

HOW to prune them…not hot. Of course, I do not know if the neighbor would agree to it, but I feel like they could produce so much more than they do.
