To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

 In the Garden

by

Mary Cassatt

This painting is gorgeous! I just plain love this little girl’s face, dress, and most especially her hat!  The black ribbon outlines the rim of her hat, and makes it appear that the blooming garden, behind her, is actually a part of the hat, I am certain it was done with intent.

The woman is deeply engaged in her handy work; but the child refuses to be denied – she rather softly, though intently says: I am here and I am not going way.  I will patiently wait until you are ready to play or talk or just acknowledge me!

Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
