Himself and Herself

By

Robert Henri

I was immediately drawn to these portraits, which the artist painted while on a trip to Ireland.  I found her beautiful, with a slight sparkle, almost as if she wishes to smile, but fears it may be inappropriate; and him a bit somber though steady, with a look of let’s get on with this foolishness, I have work to do.

I was pleased the couple were kept together, and that I was able to see them side by side.
