My City, A Christmas Spectacle
by
Anthony Ruiz
Cynicism is set aside for the Yuletide
The concrete jungle is glittered with snow
My city, illuminated by Macy’s festive windows
Telling tales of Kris Kringle
Of presents and bows
Ice skating in the park
Central or Bryant
Rockefeller Center home to the tree of all trees
So vibrant
So giant
36 shades of Rockettes,
Their kicks graze the night sky
The spectacle of Christmas alive in the child’s eye
My city, the spectacle of Christmas
Sidewalk Santa’s line the curbs with their buckets in tow
Pissing off commuters, freezing, putting on a wonderful show
Raising cents for those who won’t wake up to piles of gifts
There are bells to ring, carols to sing and spirits to lift
My city that never sleeps will rest its head tonight
Empire State Building has changed its colors to green and red tonight
It’s all roasted chestnuts, so our jaded hearts will be fed tonight
Jack Frost nipping at your nose while you’re in bed tonight
Say a Merry Christmas if that’s all that will be said tonight
