Alligators in the Everglades
The Everglades are massive! According to the National Parks, the Everglades are “the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States, a World heritage Site, and International biosphere Reserve, a Wetland of International Importance, and a specially protected area under the Cartagena Treaty” – oh my.
When I think of the Everglades, the first thought which comes to mind, is taking my Mother on an airboat ride, where she joyfully fed marshmallows to the alligators! I so wish I had a picture of her climbing into that boat.

This is the dock she had to step down on to, in order to get into the boat. What a great day!
It is also a place where most, if not all, of our Floridian house guests are taken to, either to see wild life, which abounds, the waters or plant life. I also well remember the first time we took my Mother and Aunt Helen, across Alligator Alley, which is a long stretch of highway, in the Everglades, and saw not only the Alligators, on the side of road, which thrilled them both; but pink flamingos, which I adore! I must say, it has been a long time since I have seen flamingos there.
I think most people who venture into this wet wonderland are looking to site an alligator; the quintessential Floridian mascot!
