A Happy Halloween House
My house smells like gingerbread, thanks to my gingerbread house! I am highly susceptible to advertising; thus standing in line, at Trader Joe’s, I saw this gingerbread house, for Halloween, and impulsively bought it. I must say, I am not sorry about the purchase.
I do not like a Halloween filled with darkness and evil, and I do know that there are many for whom Halloween is a spiritual holiday. However, for me, Halloween is about fond childhood memories, dressed up in happy and clever homemade costumes, and being driven to all of the “best” neighborhoods, where we took trick-or-treating seriously – our candy would last for months. Thus, as part of my autumn decorations, I am putting out the jack-o-lanterns and making a Happy Halloween House!
If you decide to try your hand, though the directions do not say so, I suggest you cut a piece of wax paper, to put between the tray and bottom of the structure.
Overall, the kit was fine, though I did not like the icing which it came with. I tried to put the plastic icing bag into an old pastry bag, so I could add a piping tip, but that did not work out; and I ended up squeezing the icing into a bag.
This kit came with plastic bones and bats, something to be aware of if you have small children, a gingerbread cat, which I did not like and thus did not use, and a gingerbread pumpkin. I raided my cake decorating box, to find a few more additions to my house.
Yes, I had to add a touch of Florida.
The owner of my house is dressed up like one of Snow White’s seven dwarfs.
