Wright Brother’s National Memorial
Kitty Hawk and the Outer Banks , North Carolina, in general, are not off of the 95, but worth the detour! We started our tour of the area, by going to Kill Devil Hills, where on December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers, made the “first controlled powered airplane flight.”
The field and monument to the Wright brothers is part of the National Parks system, and includes a visitors station, with an informative exhibition about what was accomplished on this windy, soft sand hill.
It was wonderful to see so many people stopping to appreciate history.

The brothers did not simply have luck or a great work ethic; they mastered the science behind aviation.
