Pershing Park
“In their devotion, their valor, and in the loyal fulfillment of their obligations, the officers and men of the American Expeditionary forces have left a heritage of which those who low may ever be proud.”
~ General John J. Pershing ~
The General John J. Pershing Park, which is located on Pennsylvania Avenue NW, is a rather delightful spot, in Washington D.C., to take a break and people watch. While certainly centrally located, I came upon this plaza rather unexpectedly, delighted to see the General, a hero from World War I, and mentor of so many Generals who would go on to win World War II – including General Dwight D. Eisenhower, General Omar Bradley, and General George S. Patton.
The General of the Armies, the only man to so be awarded this title, while alive, was sculpted by Robert Winthrop White
