To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

The Toilette
by
Henri De Toulouse-Lautrec
Look at her, it is as if strands of blue thread have been woven into her hair; and why not — the thin blue lines dominate this painting of a faceless woman. Why is she sitting on the floor? Why do I find her beautiful, if I cannot see her face? She seems ever so exhausted, yet her night is unfinished, I fear.
Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
