Hibiscus
I love having fresh flowers in my house, preferably flowers which are fragrant and found in my yard. However, gardenias and roses are not always available, when all else fails, I can almost always count on finding at least a few hibiscus blooms for my table! While you may not think of hibiscus as a cut flower, I find that they float beautifully arranged in a bowl, bringing instant color to my table.
The flowers are delicate in appearance, and the bloom will only last for the day; however the plant is quite hardy and very easy to grow.
Hibiscuses are typically grown in tropical and subtropical regions, happily planted in the ground, where they easily thrive; however, they are also quite adaptable to container gardening, and thus can be raised as a house plant in more temperate climates.
The plants can grow quite large and thus serve as a wonderful hedge, providing privacy while offering abundant blossoms.
Compare the single bloom to the double below
There are hundreds of varieties and countless colors of hibiscus; they also come in both single and double blooms, on the same blossom – both equally beautiful.
[…] I love hibiscus and have quite a few varieties planted in my garden, however, I do not normally use them as cut flowers, primarily because the bloom so quickly fades. http://thatisallfornow.com/?p=7478 […]
