Hong Kong Orchid
When Joan Hayden determined she wanted something, there was no limit to the effort she would put forth, to ensure her desire was met. Thus, when Joan decided we should grow a Hong Kong Orchid tree, as the flowers were beautiful, she procured the seedlings, and I planted them.
At the time, I did not imagine the tree would so quickly become so big, but it has, and demands a great deal of pruning to keep it under control. However, the beautiful blossoms, which it produces, certainly make it a worthwhile addition to the garden.
While the tree comes in both pink and purple and white blossoms, I prefer the former– of course.
This plant is very easy to grow and provides luscious shade, but you will to plant it away from the house, as it does take off!
