To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

The Millinery Shop
by
Edgar Degas
I love this painting, though I am not usually drawn to such an orange pallet. The milliner is hard at work, admiring her handy work, while it appears another of her creations is all but sitting atop her crown. I admit to wishing I could go into such a shop, and perhaps even buy a lovely hat – though, where would I wear it?
Degas captured women at work, showing the intensity they applied to the task, while ensuring the beauty of his subject.
Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
