The Royal Poinciana
There are few trees more magnificent than the flowering Royal Poinciana! Its’ striking display of color brightens spring and summer, in tropical climates, with an all but unequaled exuberance, which has justifiably earned it the name Flamboyant in many regions of the world.
While I usually prefer a pink and purple pallet, when it comes to flowering plants and trees, the Delonix Regia, which can easily grow between thirty to forty feet in height, offers such a deep and joyful blooming season, that I find myself seeking out her bursting, almost florescent, oranges and reds.
This tree makes me feel the heat of summer, even on an overcast day.
I love plants with a prolonged blooming season.
The tree has an enormous canopy, with lacy, fern like leaves which provide shade.
They can even make grass look more desirable!
Perfectly melded color and texture
The flowers are as delicate as orchids.
Even the root system is flamboyant!
Every element of this tree is truly lovely.
The very large seed pod
An arresting addition to any vista!
