The Poet’s Corner

Ode to You

There should be an ode to you.

Would it begin with Congratulations?

Or Condolences?

Which is appropriate?

Perhaps neither – But what of Courage?

Yes, I do think Courage.

It takes courage to dare to imagine a better life;

even just a different life takes Courage.

We like the Same.

The Same does not scare us.

Or challenge us.

The Same leaves us where we have been,

and leaves others where they are.

The Same is safe and familiar,

and does not require Courage.

But Change sets her price high.

Ah to Change!

Do we dare imagine?

Does enough Courage exist to birth Change?

To be allowed to Change,

first requires that the pillars of complacency

and contentment be paid.

And the powers that be,

can not so easily be appeased,

for it might provoke others to break free,

from the bondage of expectations and demands.

Change requires Courage.

You have found Courage,

And Courage will lead you to Freedom.

Freedom to live Your life on Your terms –

for better or worse is not the question.

Right and wrong do not have to exist.

You do not have to be at peace.

Nor must you live or languish in turmoil.

You have found Courage,

thus you are now allowed to define Your own world.

You may choose the colors of your dreams,

and the soundtrack for your life.

You have found Courage!

Congratulations, Condolences, and Courage.
