A New to me Nativity
Last year, we drove from New England to Ohio, for Thanksgiving. Along the way, we made a detour, in upstate New York, to visit the Moosewood Restaurant, whose mushroom pâté, I use to make for Lia. While we did not find the pâté we did find a wonderful Goodwill store, and this amazing nativity.
Years ago, Jim and Mary Lou gave us a beautiful nativity, which we have put out every year. But when I saw this box marked 2.99, I could not resist. I carried it over to one of the ladies, working in the store, and asked her the price. She looked at me a little odd, perhaps wondering if I could read. “It is $2.99.” I could not believe my luck! I rushed to the cashier, without bothering to look further – I had found my deal and I was not going to risk losing my buy.
It is not a secret that I love a great find, free is best, but if not free a great price makes my delight complete.
When I got the box to the car, I showed Kate, who immediately commented that it was like the nativity of her childhood, even better I thought. I did not unpack it until we got back to our hotel, in Massachusetts, but what an amazingly pleasant box.
It eventually made it back to Florida, and for at least one Christmas, replaced Jim and Mary Lou’s nativity. This year, Christmas finds us far from home, and while the Village is up, with its nativity, I have yet to find a place for either of the other nativities, thus I will enjoy it in pictures – I hope you do too!
