Smartphones and Apps

I love smartphones and apps.  I often look for apps that do something unique.  And if not unique, then it is nice for it to have value.  How does this app make my life easier?  For example, I have a Starbucks app on my smartphone, which allows me to pay for my coffee, by simply letting the clerk scan my phone.  It is not unusual for me to run out of the house with just my driver’s license, a credit card and my phone.  But the convenience of using the Starbucks app outweighs paying with my credit card.  Although, my credit card is charged through the app, I find it to be more convenient.  There is one more feature of this app which is really nice, and that is points.  They give you free coffee, after you have collected enough points!  Well I am not sure it is free, Starbucks is just rewarding loyalty.

Similar to the app that pays for coffee, Google has put out the virtual wallet.  The virtual wallet will allow you to pay at participating stores throughout the United States, and can even pay from your computer by scanning a code that appears.  Presently, this app is only available on the Nexus S 4G through Sprint®.  But the Google virtual wallet app also adds additional value by being location aware, of your surroundings, and providing Nearby Offers.  Nearby Offers is one of three offers by the Google Virtual Wallet, which has additional savings if using the Virtual Wallet.  The two other offers are Google Offers of the Day, self-explanatory, and Featured Offers, which are exclusive to the Google wallet.
