To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

 Gates of the Valley

by

Ansel Adams

Photographed in 1938, at Yosemite National Park, in California, by Ansel Easton Adams, the great American photographer and artist.  Adams was born in San Francisco in 1902, and died a few miles down the Pacific Coast Highway, in Monterey, California, in 1984, at the age of 82.  For so many, his eye defined what nature photography could and should be – this is one of my favorite snowy views of Yosemite National Park, which Adams first visited during a family vacation in 1916, and instantly fell in love with the glorious wonder and brilliant light that bathed the mountains.  The following year, he became a member of the Sierra Club, and would eventually spend thirty-seven years on its board of directors.

I am in awe at the beauty and complexity of layers captured here in black and white.

Art can never exist without naked beauty displayed.
