Poet’s Corner

Ready or Not

Change calls out to us:

“Ready or not

here I come!”

Wait!

I respond;

I am not ready.

But whether we are

ready or not

is actually of no concern

to her.

She was just stating a fact,

not asking a question.

Either way she is coming

and we must embrace

whatever she inevitably brings,

or know that we will be lost

in the new landscape

she has created

for us to live in.

I hope for the best,

but there is no way

of knowing what change

may think appropriate

for me to live with.

I do not want to be afraid.

I want to be brave;

but I am apprehensive.

I know I have no choice,

but I am not ready.
