To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

Norman Rockwell, How To Diet, from the Saturday Evening Post, January 3, 1953

It my was neighbor Phil, who first gave me an appreciation of Norman Rockwell, I must confess, that before listening to Phil speak of Rockwell, I liked his work, but did not recognize him as the remarkable artist that he was.

After Thanksgiving, before leaving Caroline’s, she suggested that we stop in Stockbridge, on our way out of Massachusetts – thank you Caroline.  The Norman Rockwell Museum http://www.nrm.org/ was undeniably worth the detour; showcasing the detailed efforts which went into creating unexpectedly large canvases, painted in oil, that so aptly captured one artist view of America.

I especially loved Stockbridge at Christmas, as the town all but remains the same, and so reminded me of my own Christmas village.  The links below will give you a look at the painting, which I brought home on a magnet.
