Visit National Parks For Free!

I hope you were able to take advantage of the Smithsonian sponsored Free Museum Day.  We went to St. Augustine, touring the Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum http://staugustinegovernment.com/visitors/spanish_quarter.cfm.  While there, we also toured the Castillo de San Marcos, http://www.nps.gov/casa/ while not part of the Smithsonian program, rather the National Parks system, it was nonetheless free to the public, on September 25.  http://www.nps.gov/findapark/feefreeparks.htm

If planning a trip to the oldest city in America, I highly recommend a stop at the Castillo!  The Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum was interesting, especially the leather smith who pointed out that all of the leather, used in his shop, comes from the Tandy company, of Texas – and yes the Tandy company who birthed computers and Radio Shack!

We love touring our 392 National Parks, many are always free, but the next opportunity to visit a park without paying the entrance fee is on November 11, 2010, Veterans Day.  Do not miss out on exploring the natural beauty of this nation, as well as the historical landmarks which make up our National Park system!  http://www.nps.gov/pub_aff/plan_your_visit/index.htm
