In the Wild!

Moa

Yes, More Chickens!

Moa, in Hawaiian, means chicken, and it is not unusual to see these lovely creatures wondering around, shall we say – free as a bird!

Whether the majority of these wild chickens are domesticated animals that have gotten free, descendants of the Red Junglefowl, brought to Hawaii by the Polynesians, or a cross bred of the two, is being debated by those who study such things; I however, care only that they are perfectly charming.

I cannot honestly say that I feel as strongly about them as I do about my ducks; but anytime I see a chicken, just wondering in the world, I have to stop and at the very least acknowledge the little fellows.

I love watching mothers caring for chicks.

The plumage, on the males is vibrant!
