I Voted – No Exclamation Point

The envelope said: Vote With Confidence. It never occurred to me to question the process until I went into the post office, where my confidence was suddenly shaken by a very nice clerk and a computer.

It took me a while to cast my vote. Even when I finally held the ballot, in my hand, I did not quickly or easily fill in my choice for the next President of the United States.

There had been much debate regarding so many aspects of this election, including whether we would be in Florida, to vote in person, or vote by mail, which is what happened.

Today, we drove to the post office to pick-up our mail, which had been hold, as we were traveling last week, and to send our ballots over-night, guaranteed to arrive by noon tomorrow. On a good day, I have terrible hand writing, today was not a good day, thus after I filled out the address slip, inserted our ballots, and sealed the envelope, I went into to mail our votes, with the envelope they had arrived in, to assist the clerk, if she could not read my hand writing.

She entered the address twice, telling me both times it was not a valid address, and as the service I was paying for was guaranteed, the address had to be accurate. I showed her the envelope in which the ballots had arrived; she tried again and came back with the same results.  Neither of us understood, and exchanged comments about this current election season, the suspicious of voter fraud, and how it must have been an error at the printer’s office.

Finally, she decided to enter the address without the 0 in front of the post office box number, and the computer was able to recognize the address as valid.

I paid for the shipping, listened as she explained the tracking information, and whished her a good day; but as I made my way back to the car, it was impossible to shake the error on the envelope.

I am not a person who falls in line with “conspiracy theories” but as I drove away from that hard cast vote, I wondered how many votes will be mailed to the wrong address, and was it done with intent?  I do not want to think that the error on my envelope was anything other than a mistake, but it hard not feel the heaviness of this election and all of the horrible things which have been done, said, and revealed.  I must hope for the best, but will once again be praying tonight that God will bless America, please.  That is all for now.
