Greece
I bought this collection of postcards in 1991, on my second trip to Greece. For many years, they hung framed, in my kitchen; I am not sure why I repurposed their frame, but it may be time, at the very least, to find a new frame for them, as I am still filled with such warmth, when I look through these bright, bold, and spirited images.
What extraordinary cheeses and olive oil!
Unlike my first trip to Greece, on this journey, I stayed with Lia and her family, which created an entirely different experience, one treasured equally, as much as the first.
I remember talking to a fisherman, at Legrena, engaged in this activity, who told me it was to tenderize the octopus.
For me, Greece and food are gloriously interwoven. I remember during my first visit, having neither knowledge of the language or foods, but feeling famished, as we walked into a restaurant, with the look of two lost souls, and the owner of the establishment, beckoning us to follow him to the kitchen, which we did. We were soon pointing to what we wanted to eat, and within seconds, feasting on the most delightful of all foods.
Vegetables were all eaten seasonably, and thus the best salads I had ever eaten.
When I was there with Lia, besides enjoying her family’s hospitality, I was privileged to cook with her Mother and Sister, sharing the delicious creations, which are bountifully served, with joy and love – truly!
