To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

The Dance Lesson
by
Edgar Degas
Recently, we had the opportunity to introduce Degas to a student of the ballet; though not this particular painting, as it hangs in the National Gallery of Art, in Washington D.C., which is one of my most favorite spots to drop in on, there is always something to see and learn in its halls.
I hope I have inspired this ballerina to further investigate this man’s interpretations of her chosen art form; as both his paintings and sculptures of this subject are both delicate and determined – as is the ballet.
Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
