There are over 40 calendars used in the world today. In the Western World, we use the Gregorian calendar. In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII, issued a papal bull to correct the Julian calendar, which was created by Julius Caesar in 46 B.C., inspired by the Jewish and Egyptian calendars. Caesar, however, had made a few miscalculations, and thus by 1582, Easter was being celebrated in winter. With a simple signature, the Pope subtracted ten days from the Western World, and tried to put time right. (The Life Millennium, Life Books, New York, New York, 1998)
