To love a painting is to feel that this presence is… not an object but a voice.

 Summer in Ogunquit

by

Bernard Karfiol

Yes, the awning does appear, in the painting, as it does in the photograph, and yes the women are a bit off centered, which put me off slightly, and no the women to the right is not nude. Having said all of that, I am still drawn to this painting, which I recently saw at the Ogunquit Museum of art, link below.

I loved the vibrant colors, the faces of the women, oddly the one to the right more so than the one to the left, who is obviously more beautifully, and the seascape, in the back ground; but it was the journey of various layers, which my eyes traveled, that most enchanted me. Mr. Karfoil captured the charm of the vivacious beach resort, and created in me a desire to stroll along the path he painted – at least for a few minutes, I became lost in his vison – wanting to know what the women were talking about, who the people to the left were, when the boats were going out to sea, and can I live in that house at the coast of the ocean?

Art can never exist without naked beauty displaced.
