The Morpho Peleides
Or
The Brilliant Blue Butterfly!
We were invited to spend a perfect Sunday afternoon, at The Fairchild Garden, by our dear friends; most assuredly, In The Garden, shall soon radiate with snaps of this Edenic paradise. However the breathtaking flora was accompanied by some rather marvelous fauna, as well – most especially in The Wings of the Tropics Exhibit, an enclosed butterfly garden where these marvelous creates, from the tropics freely flutter, stopping to sip on fruit nectar, and occasionally posing for a portrait or two.
Of all of the creatures, in the exhibit, I was most taken by the Morpho Peleides, and determined to photograph him, he is covered with millions of tiny scales that diffract the light, and when he opens his wings, a vibrantly stunning display of blue is a sight worthy of beholding! He took me on a bit of a chase, but he finally acquiesced to sitting for his portrait, thank you Mr. Morpho Peleides.
Those “eyes” starring up at you, is how he looks when his wings are closed, so entirely different – if you are interested in attracting butterflies to your garden, this is a great idea, besides planting butterfly friendly plants, consider offering them a refreshment.
