The Rotunda in Bloom
One of my favorite stops, in Washington D.C. is the National Gallery of Art; the collection is vast and it is impossible to “take it all in” during a single visit, thus I truly appreciate that when in the city, I can pop in for an hour, and enrich my soul compliments of Mr. Andrew W. Mellon and the United States Congress.
However, I do not just go to the Gallery to view the Grand Masters, I love walking through the Garden Courts, at either end of the West Building, and spending, at least a few minutes, lingering around the Fountain with Mercury, in the Rotunda, checking to see the always lovely and lush display of beauty the garden architects have fashioned, for our pleasure!
It is inspiring that the plants used are normally rather common; on this visit, the fountain was surrounded by the likes of ferns, begonias, amaryllis, ti, schefflera, calla lilies, and hydrangea; that when grouped together truly create a lush and bountiful garden experience.
So simple, yet exquisite!
