A View from the Road

The Gateway Arch

Recently, I had the privilege of a spectacular View From The Road, of The Gateway Arch, which though familiar, never fails to inspire in me a feeling of awe, at not only its grandeur, but what it represents.

Sitting on the Mississippi River, The Gateway Arch, either welcomes you to the west or aids you in bidding it goodbye; either way, The Gateway Arch is not a view you simply ignore.  I remember seeing it, for the first time, as a child, on our move to Arizona, and marveling at the enormous steel structure, which directs you to look up 630 feet, it is the “tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, the world’s tallest arch, and Missouri’s tallest accessible building.”

The Gateway Arch was completed in 1965, built to honor President Thomas Jefferson’s westward expansion, as well as the explorers and pioneers who opened the west. You are able to ride to the top, yes a bit claustrophobic but worth the View from the top, and tour a museum that I also highly recommend.
