Tommy’s
I was a senior in high school, and had gone to one of those horrible college interviews, with Angie Martinez, in Los Angeles. We were hungry, and she asked me if I wanted to go to Tommy’s? I had to confess I had never been to Tommy’s. She was a woman with a lot of spunk; after expressing a fare amount of indignation, at my lack of exposure to a genuine Los Angeles institution, she determined to take care of that, and off we went to the best chili-cheeseburger known to mankind. It was one of those perfect moments, which forever imprinted the place and the person, on my memory. A visit to LA or even Las Vegas, must still involve a stop at Tommy’s though the original on Beverly and Rampart, far outweighs any of the other locations, for ambiance alone.
I am not going to give you a knock off recipe for Tommy’s chili, nor am I going to tell you how make a great chili burger; I am simply going share with you that if you are ever in Los Angeles, any time – day or night – and in the mood for a wonderful burger, unlike any you have had before, go to Tommy’s! You will not regret it, I promise.
