Some Other Era

Do you ever find yourself longing

for a time you never knew?

Thinking fondly about some other era,

wishing you had walked other streets

and witnessed other vistas?

I do.

There are moments,

when some other story

draws me away,

from my own.

I ramble down an unknown road

shedding the woman I am today,

leaving behind her trappings

with each step I take,

and feeling reborn

into another world,

with an unread script.

Time appears to be measured differently,

no longer do I feel digitally displayed seconds

stealing my day away from me,

but rather it is the serenity of the setting sun

and the hope of its rising

which seems to matter.

I hear the soundtrack

for this other world,

it is unfamiliar,

but not unwelcomed;

it is a tune I can carry,

and a rhythm I could dance to.

I am enchanted.

It feels lovely here;

I wish to linger,

to explore what may be possible

in this other world.

Might I be content here,

I whisper to myself,

pausing on the path

to await an answer

which will not come.
